Ulster Avenue
The Village of Saugerties sits between Mount Marion to the south and Malden to the north. Easily reached from the New York State Thruway, it is home to an historic freight house dating from the days of the NYWS&B, and also offers views of the Saugerties defect detector and Automatic 97.Getting there: From I-87, the NY State Thruway, take exit 20. A right turn off the exit ramp onto Ulster Avenue, Rt. 32, will bring you to the tracks in little more than a minute.

The Freight House
The New York West Shore & Buffalo Railway freight house, dating from the 19th century, sits just to the east of the tracks north of Ulster Avenue. It is similar in design to the freight house at MP 68 in Milton. At present, it is home to a propane business.

Above & Below: Southbound intermodal and
manifest trains pass the freight house
on November 2, 2007 and September 20, 2008.
