Pine View Road (The Chromalloy Crossing)
Pine View Road is the hold point for southbound trains waiting at CP 22. Over the years this crossing, still referred to by dispatchers as the Chromalloy crossing, has been a flashpoint between CSX and the Clarkstown police. On several occasions the police have boarded trains that were blocking the crossing and on more than one occasion have arrested the train crew. In addition to the commercial property recently occupied by Alloy Technology and now occupied by Prestige, several private homes sit at the end of the cul de sac. With a train blocking the crossing, there is no access for these residents. We have heard that at one point CSX offered to build them an alternative access road, but they refused the offer, fearing that increased traffic would result. So the saga continues.Getting there: From Route 303 in Nyack, just north of Blauvelt, take Route 59 West past the Palisades Center Mall. Immediately after crossing the bridge over the tracks, turn right off the exit onto West Nyack Road. Just before the road dead-ends at the tracks, turn right (south) into Western Highway to Pine View Road on the left.

looked on February 25, 2008.
Interestingly enough, this fairly busy road crossing has no flashers and no
gates.

not a common sight on the River Sub. The stream below the tracks is visible in

"In and Out
At Nyack" Part 2
On May 6, 2008, unit ethanol train K682, with UP power, waited on the main track for intermodal train Q118, with an increasingly rare Conrail-painted leader, to catch up and pass him on the siding. We had just missed the ethanol train in West Park earlier, but we caught Q118, which was trailing it there. Click to see.
Above: K682 waits behind the bridge, further from the crossing than usual, in the shadows -- which did not please us.
Above: A quick wave from Q118 as he passes K682.
Above: Q118 heads south. The Chromolloy crossing lost even more of its charm in the month before this picture was taken,
as the auto dealer erected yet another chain link fence, this time right at the crossing,
and placed these cars where before there was woods.
Above: Well over half an hour after Q118 passed, K682 was given permission to start south.
