Still Out There! On the tenth anniversary of
the takeover of Conrail by CSX, Conrail Blue C40-8
#7302 leads Q439 southbound through
Norwood NJ. June 1, 2009.
Blanche Avenue and Broadway in Norwood and Clinton Avenue in Northvale bring the River Line to the end of its journey through New Jersey. Along the way, the tracks pass Milepost 17 and the Automatic 17 signal. Next stop, the New York border.
Getting there: Coming from the north or south, take Livingston Street. From the north, Route 303, the road that follows the River Sub through lower Rockland County, NY, becomes Livingston Street in New Jersey. From the south, Knickerbocker Road, a main north-south road through northern Bergen County, NJ, east of Schraalenburgh Road, becomes Livingston Street at the Oradel Reservoir. To reach the tracks in Norwood from Livingston Street, turn west into Blanche Avenue and Broadway. To reach Clinton Avenue in Northvale, turn west off Livingston at any cross street, then north into Tappan Road. Then turn west into Clinton.
Blanche Avenue
In an area of the River Sub with very tight clearances for photography, the wide grassy area to the east of the tracks at Blanche Avenue offers welcome space for morning shots. Milepost 17 sits south of the crossing.
