Malden -- Eavesport -- West Camp  1 (of 1)

Added 9/2008. Copyright © 2008 Lewis Bogaty

If you don't blink while driving from Saugerties to Cementon, you will see that you pass through Malden, Eavesport, and West Camp, each reached from Route 9W. (These entities and the Village of Saugerties may all be part of a larger town of Saugerties. As elsewhere in New York, boundaries overlap.)

Malden-On-Hudson, NY

The grade crossing at Malden Turnpike, with the mountainous backdrop to the west, is one of the prettiest crossings on the entire River Line. Of course, the view is more or less blocked by a passing train, but it is a nice spot for shooting video in the morning. The crossing is at Milepost 101.  Automatic 100 is just to the south.

Getting there: From Saugerties, continue north on Route 9W.
Turn left into Malden Turnpike to the tracks.

Getting there: From Malden, continue north on Route 9W,
and make a right turn into Emerick Road to the tracks.

West Camp, NY

Getting there: From Eavesport, continue north on Route 9W,
and make a right turn into Patterson Road to the tracks.

Here, Q118 heads south led by 7307 still in Conrail paint. June 28, 2008.
