Above: Northbound Q434 crosses the Wilbur Trestle over the Rondout Creek on October 17, 2008.

Kingston, along with Catskill further north, is a highlight of the upper River Subdivision. Entering Kingston on the massive Wilbur Trestle over the Rondout Creek, the single-track River Sub rolls immediately into the Kingston Tunnel at MP 87. The line is double-track through the city, beginning at CP 87, and then passing through the Kingston Yard on its way to CP 90 at the north end of the city.

Getting there: From the NY Thruway, I-87, take exit 19, Kingston, and follow I-587 into Rt. 32. To reach the Kingston Yard, take Rt. 32 north to Flatbush Avenue. To reach CP 90, continue north on Ulster Avenue (do not turn where Rt. 32 turns onto Flatbush Avenue). As Ulster Avenue meets Route 9W, turn north on 9W and then left onto Boices Lane to the tracks. To reach attractions to the south, from I-587, take Route 32 south into Rt. 213 south through the city.

at the south end of the Kingston Yard, which is to the left. October 9, 2008.

Above: The locals, C711 (which works north of Kingston) and C712 (which works south of Kingston), are based
in the Kingston Yard. Here, the C712 crew is putting together its train, on May 6, 2008.

Above: Q156 moves slowly south through the yard, passing the Mile 89 marker beside the pile of ties, on October 20, 2008.
One of the locals  can be seen at work in the distance.

Milepost 88

Along Greenkill Avenue, a mile south of Flatbush Avenue, just east of Rt. 213, the Wallkill industrial track,
a two-track siding, sits beside the two running tracks at MP 88.

Above and Below: The sidings and the greaser, October 20, 2008.
Milepost 88 can be seen just to the right of the beginning of the bridge.

Above & Below: Q417 crosses the bridge and passes Milepost 88 on October 20, 2008.
