Be sure to see Lewis Bogaty's article "Railfanning the CSX River Subdivision Part 2 - Along the River from Roseton to Highland Landing" in the June 2006 Railpace News Magazine.

Here are some photos that didn't make it into the article.

Roseton

Northbound Q410 on March 18, 2006

CP 63

CP 63 is unlike any other control point on the River Sub. It controls the switch off the main at the north end of the power plant siding in Roseton. The south-end switch, however, is hand-thrown, with a weigh-in-motion scale just north of it. CP 63 was installed by Conrail to facilitate delivery in the days when coal was still delivered here. The small yard, with several tracks, is similar to the Alsen yard, where coal is delivered to the cement plants, and can hold up to 95 cars. CP 63 is not accessible.

Marlboro

A winter view of the marina seen in the Railpace article in summer, with similar U.P. power.
Q156 southbound on March 20, 2006.

Milton

Southbound Q 254 rounds the turn at CP66 in Milton, NY, on November 21, 2005.

The inscription on the north face of the 19th Century Freight House at mile 68 in Milton, NY.
The "N" is for New York, West Shore & Buffalo, an early owner of the line.
The rest of the name is covered over by a board with the Royal Winery name in faded letters.

Southbound Q409 passes Q111 at mile 68 in Milton, NY. April 20, 2006

Southbound Q409 glides by CP 69 on April 10, 2006

The Long Wait:
Q410 on the siding at CP69 awaiting three southbounds on April 10, 2006.
It was 3 hours before the last of the southbounds passed by.

Q433 was the first of the southbounds to pass Q410 at CP69 on April 10, 2006.

The second southbound, Q118, finally arrived.

Still plenty of time. Ah to be a conductor on a lovely Spring day waiting for three.

By the time the third southbound, Q439, arrived, shadows were encroaching.

Highland Landing
