Coxsackie, NY 1 (of 2)

Added 5/2008; Last updated 5/2009. Copyright © 2008 Lewis Bogaty

North of Athens, the River Sub passes through Coxsackie, NY, where the next double track is found. CP 118, the south end of the double track, is located at Flintmine Road and CP 121 can be found in the farmlands north of Mansion Street.

Flats Road

Flats Road provides the southernmost vantage point in Coxsackie.

Getting there: From Catskill and Athens, continue north on Route 9W to Flintmine Road (at the south end of the prison). Turn right (east)  into Flintmine, and when Flintmine turns to the north, Flats Road continues east to the tracks several yards away.

Three Below: Southbound unit ethanol train K680 approaches and crosses Flats Road, on April 25, 2008.

Flintmine Road

Flintmine Road provides the next two vantage points in Coxsackie. The road winds around parallel to the tracks, offering a broadside view of trains in the afternoon.  It then turns east to cross the tracks at CP 118.

Getting there: From the point at which Flintmine meets Flats and turns to the north, follow the road as it parallels the tracks and then turns east until it crosses the tracks at CP 118.

Above: A fragrant field of flowers along Flintmine Road greets the differently fragrant garbage train, K276, on August 17, 2004.

CP 118

Above and Below: Southbound Q417 awaits Q165 just north of CP118 (MP 119) on November 2, 2007.
The Bailey Street crossing is visible in the distance.

Above and Below: Q417 heads south through CP 118.

Above: Q417 crosses Flintmine Road with the prison in the distance.

Q417 didn't get very far very fast. The train again stopped to wait for a northbound at CP 102. Click to see.
